Enjoy Canadian train travel and retrace the steps of 19th century explorers. Journey through the legendary Spiral Tunnels and pass by the spot where the Last Spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. This historic event is one of the most important in Canadian history as it united Canada from east to west. You'll also transverse the Continental Divide and be inspired by spectacular mountains and dramatic canyons. If you're a history-buff this route is for you.

Vancouver Train to Kamloops: Board the train at the Vancouver Station. Pass through the fertile fields of the Fraser Valley and view the towering peaks of the Coast Mountains before entering the Fraser Canyon. You'll see the thundering waters of Hell's Gate and follow the Thompson River to historic Kamloops, gateway to the Interior of British Columbia. Stay overnight in moderate accommodations in Kamloops.

Kamloops Train to Banff: Continue east through the vast ranchlands along the South Thompson River, pass Craigellachie, where the Last Spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, and enter Rogers Pass, with its tunnels, snowsheds and glistening glaciers. This rail tour then climbs through the Spiral Tunnels and over the Continental Divide to Banff National Park. End your rail journey in Banff.

Itinerary:

DAY 1: Vancouver. Arrive in Vancouver for an overnight stay. The rest of the day is yours to explore one of the world's most beautiful cities.

DAY 2: Vancouver to Kamloops. Travel onboard the train from Vancouver to Kamloops. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Overnight in Kamloops. B/L

DAY 3: Kamloops to Banff. Your journey continues eastwards to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Highlights include Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels and the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Overnight in Banff. B/L

DAY 4: Banff. Your Classic First Passage to the West Vacation ends this morning with check-out from your Banff hotel.
