Beacon Hill Walk & "Cheers!"

Boston is a great walking town so join a local professional guide for a stroll along Boston's historic streets, including Beacon Hill and a stop at the Cheers! Bar. Your walk begins in the Back Bay area at Copley Square. Pass Trinity Church and the adjacent Hancock Tower as your guide provides commentary and points out architectural details. Continue along Newbury Street with its fashionable boutiques, sidewalk cafes, and galleries. Travel through the Public Garden, passing exotic flowerbeds, trees, fountains and the lagoons. Enjoy a brief pause at the Bull & Finch Pub that inspired the TV show Cheers!, and enjoy a glass of wine, beer or soda. Continue to Boston Common, the oldest public park in America, and the narrow streets and brick sidewalks of Beacon Hill--a registered Historic District including Louisburg Square. Stroll to the gold-domed State House where your tour ends. Board your coach for the return to the ship or an optional drop-off at Quincy Market. You may opt to remain in town for independent sightseeing and shopping. You are then responsible for your return to the ship.

Boston Highlights and Duck Tour

Enjoy the highlights of Boston from land and from the Charles River, as this tour combines a panoramic tour of the city's most important and scenic sites by motor coach, followed by an exciting journey by water aboard a World War II amphibious vehicle called the Boston Duck. During your scenic motor coach tour, you'll pass through the heart of Boston and along a portion of the Freedom Trail to catch a glimpse of the Old State House, the site of the Boston Massacre, the King's Chapel, Granary Burying Ground, the Park Street Church as well as the expansive green of Boston Common. Pass by picturesque Copley Square, bordered by the architectural wonders of Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library. Then, you'll make your way past the Public Garden with its beautiful formal gardens and whimsical swan boats, the exclusive Beacon Hill neighborhood and the New State House with its impressive gold dome, en route to the Charles River for your fun-filled Duck tour. Embark this amphibious craft for a brief tour on land past the New Charles River Dam and Park and the infamous "Big Dig" Project while your diver/guide points out the highlights. Your driver becomes your captain as the Duck splashes into the Charles River for a brief tour by water. During your Duck cruise, you'll see the Craigie Drawbridge and the Longfellow Bridge linking Boston and Cambridge, as well as Fenway Park and the Esplanade in the distance. Back on dry land and on motor coach, you will have the option to return directly to your ship, or you can be dropped off at Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall and return to your ship, you may use the local shuttle at a nominal cost.
Boston Highlights, Historic Salem & Seafaring Marblehead

Take in some of Boston's most historic highlights and trace the past of two famed cities: Marblehead, with its rich nautical heritage; and Salem, a town best known for its 17th-century fear of witchcraft. Enjoy a photo stop at Copley Square, featuring some of Boston's most striking architectural masterpieces, old and new. The Romanesque Trinity Church was completed in 1877, and the Boston Public Library is noted for its Italian Renaissance-style exterior. The ultra-modern John Hancock Tower transformed Boston's cityscape. You will than continue to Boston's North Shore - a craggy stretch of Atlantic shoreline rich in history and scenic beauty. Your first stop will be at Marblehead, a delightful port with clapboard houses, cobblestone streets, and first-rate nautical heritage, settled in 1629. Wealthy sea captains built lovely Federal and Georgian homes here, still set amid ancient elms on quaint, winding streets. At Marblehead Neck, admire the summer homes of 19th-century millionaires and the historic Marblehead Light. Next, you will visit Salem, a thriving maritime community best known for its infamous 1692 witch trials. Step inside the Salem Witch Museum for a complete multimedia presentation, and learn of some macabre American history. After a three-course lunch in one of Salem's finest dining establishments, you'll pass Salem's splendid 19th-century mansions, and Chestnut Street, often called the most beautiful street in America.
Freedom Trail Walking Tour

Step back into our nation's early history on this extraordinary walking tour. From Boston Common, the country's oldest public park, your guide will lead you to the State House with its golden dome. Its cornerstone was laid by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere in 1795. Passing Park Street Church and the Granary Burying Ground (the final resting place of John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere), you'll see the Old City Hall. This is the finest example of French Second Empire architecture in America. Pass the Old Corner Bookstore, where Emerson, Hawthorne and Thoreau met. See where the Sons of Liberty gathered on the eve of the Boston Tea Party. You'll pass the site of the Boston Massacre on the way to Faneuil Hall marketplace. In Boston's historic North End, see the simple, three-story, clapboard home of Paul Revere, built in 1676. The last stop will be at Old North Church, where Paul Revere ordered lanterns hung to tell how the British Army was arriving - one if by land, two if by sea. After your tour, you may remain at Faneuil Hall Marketplace to eat, shop, relax and people-watch.
Historic Boston & Cambridge

The American Presidents: Kennedy and Adams

Kennedy Library (perhaps the nation's most popular presidential library), and Peacefield, the home and family library of John Adams and John Quincy Adams. At the Kennedy Library and Museum, you'll relax in the comfort of the theater for a 17-minute introductory film narrated in part by J.F.K. Incorporating historic television footage and cherished family home movies, this film provides the background, family and political accomplishments of the "Camelot" legend. Following the presentation, you will have an opportunity to independently explore the museum, featuring an extensive range of audio-visual displays. Stand in a re-creation of the Oval Office and experience the drama of President Kennedy's historic address to the nation on civil rights, or perhaps capture the inspirational spirit of the space program. Then continue to the nearby town of Quincy - birthplace of father and son presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams - to visit "The Old House," lovingly referred to by John Adams as Peacefield. This elegant plantation residence was home to four generations of the Adams family. First occupied by John Adams in 1788, it once served at the Summer White House and is filled with original furniture and paintings treasured by the Adams family. A U.S. National Park Ranger will provide a fascinating guided tour of this home and the family library while providing an historical perspective of the vast accomplishments of these two great men.
